Summer 2011

Summers are a very busy time for Sealife Conservation and the Derek M. Baylis. Sailing from Monterey through Labor Day there are numerous opportunities for individuals to sail aboard the Baylis and learn more about Sealife Conservation’s efforts to save our ocean.

Monterey Bay Aquarium provides an opportunity for individuals to book passage aboard the vessel and sail with Aquarium naturalists. Thursdays through Saturdays you can choose from either a two-hour Day Sail at 1:00 or 3:30 p.m. or a 90-minute Evening Sail complete with wine and cheese.

Imagine chartering the Baylis for your own group! She is well-appointed for casual family functions as well as for business team building. Taking a turn at the wheel of this masterpiece is unlike any other experience you may be considering, and our crew will guarantee that everyone aboard will have a fantastic time!

This summer Sealife Conservation is providing the public two new opportunities to join us:

Our new Speaker Series will feature riveting discussion aboard the Baylis with conservation luminaries like Dr. Wallace J Nichols and Kenny Belov talking about recent developments in their respective fields of ocean conservation. There are a limited number of seats available for these Wednesday evening functions that will provide you with an opportunity to interact directly with these movers and shakers.

Sunday mornings we'll be departing Monterey bright and early for a run offshore to rendezvous with some of the largest animals on earth. Did you know that Monterey Bay hosts more marine mammal species than anywhere else on the planet? Monterey plays host to migrating populations of whales as well as our own local pods of orca. Join our naturalists on an odyssey unlike any other, while leaving a carbon footprint no larger than a whale’s tailprint!
